Waves of Solitude
Waves of Solitude is a concert piece for solo ukulele in re-entrant (high-G) tuning.
Waves of Solitude is a concert piece for solo ukulele in re-entrant (high-G) tuning. It was commissioned by Elisabeth Pfeiffer and is dedicated, with gratitude, to her.
In the piece, waves of music ebb and flow, with a continuous stream of short notes (both sixteenth notes and quintuplets) expressing lines that rise and fall. The music is mainly fingerstyle, with sections of strumming that forcefully delineate choppy and more flowing waves. I have strived to take advantage of the resonant qualities of the ukulele, incorporating open strings where possible to immerse the listener in a “liquid” resonance.
