About the Music
Carol Thomas Downing’s haunting tune “Walden” has the virtue of being both particular and universal at the same time. Written to express Downing’s thoughts about the summer music program The Walden School in Dublin, NH, the text speaks to universal themes of longing, love, solitude, and acceptance. No doubt we all seek a place where we are “no stranger,” and, like Thoreau at Walden Pond, may have “blessed time alone.”
