About the Music
Grace on the San Juan is a 4-movement song cycle depicting transcendent moments during the poet’s journey on the great Southwestern American river the San Juan. The poet and his companions experienced the beauty of both the natural environment and ancient Native American ruins. My setting alternates between a lyrical (picturesque) and recitative (narrative) style. The last movement includes ametrical passages painting the natural phenomenon of clouds moving in front of and behind one another as they veil the moon and the rising sun.
