The Reason We’re Singing for Unison or 2-Part Mixed Voices and Keyboard (2016)
by Michael Frank with 2-part arrangement by Loretta K. Notareschi
About the Music
“The Reason We’re Singing” was originally composed as a congregational hymn. The lyrics are intended to encompass the liberal and progressive tenants of Unitarianism. They give the congregation a feeling of reverence for the mysterious and the support of those who are joining them in life’s unpredictable journey.
There’s a reason why we’re singing.
It’s a song we hear inside,
with a chorus that is ringing,
resonating where our heart resides.
Full of reverence for the fallen
and new spirit for the weak,
it can be a tune for healing
if we dare to let our feelings speak.
There’s a chord of joy and a tone of peace,
sometimes dissonance, sometimes harmony.
Always hoping to keep a measured pace,
star-eyed travelers in time and space.
There’s a reason why we’re singing
and for each a different song.
If you sing yours, we will listen.
It will help us all to carry on.
That’s the reason why we sing this song.
